Wolverine Supporters,
The South O’Brien Music Boosters is a community-based organization that supports the band and choral programs at our school. Music Boosters was organized to help offer financial assistance to the needs of the South O’Brien Music Departments. The Music Boosters raise money by sponsoring various projects during the school year.
Who can be a member of the SOHS Music Boosters?
All parents, family, and community members are welcome. All you need to be a Booster is a desire to help out the band and choir!
How can I get involved?
Get in touch with the band or choral instructors here at school, or any member of the Boosters Board, and we will get you in the loop today!
How often does the Booster Club meet?
During the school year, the Music Boosters meet once a month. When there are big events coming up, they will meet more often. Meetings are posted on the school calendar as well as the calendar on the high school band site.
What do I have to do as a Music Booster?
We ask that Boosters attend meetings regularly and contribute their thoughts to the conversation. There are positions for such roles as the executive board, membership, Just Donate, concession stand, etc. Among the biggest events for the Music Boosters is the annual “Just Donate” fundraiser held annually each fall. Much help from Boosters and parents is needed to ensure a successful fundraising campaign each year. Funds raised provide clinicians, instruments, uniforms, and services for our music programs. Another of the bigger jobs of the Music Boosters is running the winter concession stand for basketball games and wrestling meets. All parents of students in band or choir, grades 7-12, will be asked to work the concession stand and to contribute one pan of bars or brownies for the games that they work. In the event of job conflicts, we would greatly appreciate your student working in your place, at the concession stand.
What’s in it for me?
Participating in these events raises money for students to go on the music trip every four years. Also, every time a student helps with “Just Donate,” emptying pop cages in each of the towns (Primghar, Paullina, and Sutherland), and working at the concession stand, that student earns a “point” and that “point” turns into money that is credited to them for the upcoming music trip. Our last music trip was to Nashville, TN in March 2018. Through their work and their parent's work through several Music Booster events, many students had the entire cost of that trip paid in full! Our next trip will be in the spring of 2022 and is currently in the planning phase. In addition to offsetting costs to students for the music trip every four years, recent assistance from the Music Boosters has helped to cover the expenses of new band uniforms, instrument repairs, drum cart, music filing materials, a new soundboard/mixer, clinicians, travel expenses and new posture chairs to all four music classrooms.
