7th Grade Orientation wrapped up last Friday with a panel of 8th graders answering their questions and the 7th graders making locker signs. During the past week, 7th graders had the opportunity to learn about all of the different staff members, extracurricular activities available, and junior high expectations. #GrowAtSO #Wolverine Way

South O'Brien is excited to introduce our new 6th grade teacher: Kenna Riedemann!
Mrs. Riedemann is a proud SO' alum who earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of South Dakota. She and her husband Brock enjoy attending the races, spending time with family, and being outdoors. She is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to South O'Brien and is looking forward to an amazing year.

Mrs. Fuller's 5th grade students started the year with a STEM challenge called Save Fred!

Fred the gummy worm had fallen out of his boat and needed our help! His peach ring life preserver was nearby, but there was one BIG problem… students could not use their hands to rescue Fred! Working in teams, students had to use paper clips to carefully move Fred through his life preserver and safely get him back into his boat. There were plenty of laughs, close calls, and “Wait…try it this way!” moments! But the most important part was watching students realize that they could accomplish something challenging when they worked together and didn't give up. And yes… Fred was rescued!

4th graders worked on teamwork and communication skills as they challenged themselves to build the tallest tower!

The South O'Brien Fitness Center will be open for all 7-12 students at 7 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

2nd graders had fun getting to know each other through their “Me” Bags! Students shared special items and learned more about their classmates and the things that make each of them unique.

Students in the Social Media DISCOVER session are helping create content for our pages. Juniors Emma Beck, Annika Negus, and Addi Triplett decided to jump on this social media trend!

It was our first High Five Friday of the school year! A big thank you to O’Brien County Ag for bringing the energy and helping us kick off a new school year. We loved seeing all the smiles, high fives, and school spirit!

Kindergarten students kicked off math by sorting shapes and objects into groups. They practiced noticing similarities and differences as they classified objects based on their attributes.

Students in Mrs. Gloden's 2nd grade class listened to the the book "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" and learned how to be a bucket filler. You can fill people's invisible bucket by using manners, smiling, being helpful, and being kind. Students then sorted fillers and dippers, and then they came up with their own way to fill buckets!

The Wolverine XC team travels to Cherokee tonight for the Deb Hankens Cross Country Meet. The varsity boys race begins at 5:30.

5th grade students had fun getting to know each other while playing a colorful game of Jenga! Each colored block represented a different type of question, including favorite things, fun facts, friends and family, and “Would You Rather?” questions.

Students worked in small groups, taking turns answering questions and learning more about their classmates. The challenge? See which group could build the tallest tower without it tumbling down!

All students will be dismissed at 2:00 today for Professional Development. #GrowAtSO #WolverineWay
