Mrs. Penny Pingrey

A little bit about me: This is my third year of teaching here at South O’Brien.  Before that, I was a substitute teacher at a neighboring school district.  Before that, I worked for the Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation.  I am a wife and a mom, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a theatre fanatic, a movie lover, and a teacher.  I truly believe teaching is a calling, not a job.  I am always on the lookout for different ways to teach.  My students deserve the best I have to give them, and my best is what I want to give them every day.  I want my students to walk away knowing they are important, they are valued, and they can achieve anything they want as long as they are willing to work.

I’ve been at South O’Brien since 2014

Hometown: I lived in Waubay, SD until I was 11.  My family then moved to Watertown, SD.  I graduated from high school in …… well, let’s just say it was 19something.

Hobbies:

  • I love to read (which is always a good thing for an ELA teacher).
  • I like to tell myself I am a gardener, but in truth, I just like to play in the dirt and watch things grow.
  • I like to follow my kids’ activities.
  • Theater is less a hobby and more of a way of life.
