Creating Bibliographies/Works Cited

CREATING A BIBLIOGRAPHY

  1. Open a new Microsoft Word file.
  2. Click on Reference Tab at the top.
  3. Under Citations & Bibliography, change Style to desired format (MLA or APA)
  4. Click on Manage Sources
  5. Click on New and choose type of source to cite.
  6. Fill out the boxes shown for the source chosen.
  7. Click on OK and then preview the entry at the bottom of the box.
  8. Click on Close if finished or Edit if changes need to be made.
  9. After all sources are entered, type and center the title “BIBLIOGRAPHY” on your blank MS Word page.
  10. Click on Bibliography in the References Tool Bar.
  11. Click on Insert Bibliography.
  12. Look over all entries to check all information is in the correct place.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Use the newest MLA or APA Edition.
  • If more than one author, type in the first name, then click on edit and type additional authors in the edit box.
  • Click on Corporate author is author is a business name.
  • Choose “Document from a Website” to be able to enter the website’s name
  • To cite information from a database, choose the type of source from the database. For example: periodical (newspaper or magazine), video, journal, reference book.
